The Dangers Of Pesticides

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Commercial gardeners and farmers are known for their huge operations. We have all seen them on TV and in newspapers at one point or another, usually complete with tractors pulling spraying mechanisms. It is what is being sprayed over the crops that should concern you though. More often than not, the substance being sprayed is a combination of pesticides and other chemicals that are designed to protect the crops. Unfortunately, they will not protect you should you eat them.

Pesticides are effectively chemical poisons that are formulated to kill all sorts of pests, from plants and weeds to molds and fungi to insects and other creatures that may eat the crops. They contain all sorts of compounds depending on the formula and what they are specifically designed to kill. Farmers have used them for years. However, only recently has the question of what they are doing to the individuals that eat the crops arisen.

A lot of research has been performed over the past few years concerning the effects of pesticides on humans that consume the vegetables and fruits they are used on. Although the actual spraying of pesticides can cause problems if they spread to settlements or contaminate the water supply, most people that eat commercially grown fruits and vegetables will have eaten some of the chemicals in the past. Unfortunately, the research has highlighted some severe consequences of this.

So now you are probably confused because pesticides do go through safety tests, right? Well, yes they do but, according to Merryl Hammond in Pesticide Bylaws: Why We Need Them and How to Get Them, most safety tests are not up to the standard they should be. Single chemicals are tested rather than compounds and the effects are only tested on healthy people rather than the vulnerable. This is backed up by another fact from Hammond – it is actually illegal to describe pesticides as safe in any way in the United States.

As a result of the above and the very nature of pesticides, there are so many dangers that it is difficult to document them all here. Some of the chemicals are actually carcinogenic, meaning that they cause cancer, and can also lead to decreased fertility, organ damage, genetic faults, allergies, asthma and other similar illnesses and ailments. Vulnerable adults and children are at the most at risk because of their lower immunity. However, certain toxic pesticides can affect individuals of all ages and health levels so it is a serious problem.

The dangers of pesticides should definitely be taken seriously and you absolutely should be aware of what you are eating before you put any fruits or vegetables in your mouth. Growing your own vegetables or eating organic produce can definitely help you to avoid these dangers and stay healthy because you can have peace of mind that your food is completely safe. Always remember that healthy natural food is better for helping you to achieve a healthy body.

Motivation

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Motivation can be expressed as a driving force that drives a person to act and perform to achieve   something in life. It is essential for any task that we undertake. It is a key factor to complete the assigned tasks on time to achieve success. It is an urge that comes from within us and gives us a spark to perform.

Motivation can be of many types. Let us take a very simple example. When we are hungry, the hunger motivates us to eat. We eat to survive. So what motivates us to eat? It’s the hunger from within us. So motivation comes from within that makes a difference in our behavior and actions.

When we are self-motivated we are able to visualize our goals. It feels great to be a winner once we accomplish our goals, which in turn gives us that extra urge to be motivated again. Motivation can be related to the workplace. In an organization the manager is responsible to get things done from the employees. He therefore should be able to motivate his employees. Performance requires both ability and motivation. Ability depends on education and experience whereas motivation can be acquired by the influence of other factors.

But at the end what matters is self-motivation. Some of the factors which can enhance self-motivation are a) postive thinking b) right focus c) following the right direction d) having a cause etc. When we have a cause, we dream…when we fulfill the dream we are happy. We must not get demoralized with failure because everyday is a new day and we always have a chance to start again.

Keeping Your Goals on Track as the Year Marches On

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Have you found that you often carry out an audit of your life, and find it lacking in certain departments? You try and improve your life and yourself by setting up plans and ambitions but you find that your lofty goals quickly fall by the wayside as your once burning enthusiasm curdles into abject apathy.I this sounds a bit too cynical for your liking answer me this: over the course of this current year, how many times have you vowed that you were going to take up a particular project, such as going to the gym more often, lose weight or learn a new skill?

And how many times did you actually stick to your guns and see that particular adventure through to its conclusion? I rest my case.

So many of us look to the New Year as a landmark time of the year as it provides us with the requisite motivation to alter our life for the better. At least, that is what we keep telling ourselves each and every year and yet, we end up making the same mistakes, falling prey to the same self-defeating patterns of behavior as we did for the previous 364 days of the year. New year resolutions? Give me a break: they would be better off being labeled as “exercises in self-delusion.”

If you haven’t been mortally offended with what you have read thus far, then congratulations as there maybe some hope for you yet because part of the problem is that it far too easy to simply give in when things get tough, or merely take us out of our cozy and well established comfort zone. Hopefully, you will find the time and muster the self-discipline to carry out the following advice and then you really can say hello to a much happier new you!

Ok, I want you to take a blank piece of paper, your favorite pen and then proceed to write down the five areas in your life that are the most important to YOU. Now the important part here dear reader is to ensure that you do this without thinking, do it automatically and “whatever springs to mind.”

Then draw a pie chart, and write down between zero and one hundred percent how content you are with that part of your life. You maybe rather surprised at the results that you come up with!

Now that you have identified the problem areas you want to improve upon (which is the most crucial step) now jot down your feelings about why you are so unhappy about the areas of your life that you want to work upon. Identify positive and proactive steps that you will or can implement in order to improve them and then number them. Once you achieve a particular step, make sure you tick it off.

Ticking off your steps keeps you on track, motivated, and allows you to see progress as it is made.

Benefits of Vegetable Gardening

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Have you ever wondered how fresh the vegetables that you buy from your groceries store are? To be honest they are not at all fresh. In some cases they are weeks old by the time they reach your kitchen.

Home Vegetable Gardening eBookSome vegetables taste great when they are fresh and that is why vegetable gardening is considered the best source of getting fresh veggies. You can grow all sorts of veggies out there. This means, if you know how to go about vegetable gardening then you can grow even the out of season and exotic vegetables by controlling the temperature, light and humidity levels.

Vegetable gardening can be a lot of fun too. You can also involve your kids who will find this to be a very exciting way to learn about things. Even toddlers can help you and have fun at the same time when you go out for vegetable gardening.

If you have space in your house for this, then you shouldn’t waste any more time and start your own immediately because this way you can cut down your grocery bill as well. Just think of all the benefits that you can get out of vegetable gardening and all the fun you and your family can have at the same time.

You actually don’t need a huge place to do it. Whatever space you have can be utilized for vegetable gardening. This may have its limitations like the quantity or variety that you might want to grow, but then even small quantity can be a lot to boost up your pride in your newly found hobby.

If you have been working on your veggie patch for a while, consider reading a bit about it. This might help you in improving your vegetable gardening skills. I think there is no harm in learning a few new tricks from the experts.

To get started in growing your own vegetables, check out “Home Vegetable Gardening.”

Pre-Sale Scrub Up

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Are you looking to sell your home in the near future?  Have you been hit by the subprime mortgage crisis, rising interest rates, or are you simply selling up to move away?  Maybe you’re selling an investment property.

Whatever your personal reason for selling, it is pretty safe to assume that you’ll want the best possible price for your house for the least amount of financial outlay.  This is where our ebook titled “55 Vital Tips For Sprucing Up Your Home When It’s Time To Sell” can be an invaluable resource.

Sprucing the Home

As a part-time real estate investor, I thought I would have an edge on knowing what potential buyers would be looking for as they inspected my home for sale.  Sometimes, however, what is right in front of you, is the hardest to see.  I am so used to seeing, and living in, my own home, that it’s hard for me to objectively see those little cosmetic improvements that can add massive appeal to my home for those potential buyers.  And I certainly believe that a few bucks invested in sprucing up my home before I sell could potentially be worth thousands in the finished product.  And that, my friend, is money well spent.

55 Vital Tips For Sprucing Up Your Home When It’s Time To Sell is the perfect checklist of ways to inexpensively improve the presentation of your home, helping you to make it much more appealing to buy.  Most people want to be able to imagine moving straight in, rather than fixing things up.  Why spend hundreds of dollars for a consultant for advice of how to make your home it’s most appealing, when this inexpensive ebook does a very good job at that for only $17.

The Annual Leaf-Turning

Friday, January 25th, 2008

It's not that last year was a bad year… It wasn't.  I just also wasn't the year of productive success in many areas of my life that I had predicted.  It was a year of focussing on the positive, and lessons learned, when things didn't quite go as I predicted or hoped.

That being said, last year has served very well for setting me up for this year.  I have several things in the pipeline that I am excited about.  The trick is to make the most of those excited emotions by applying action.  Setting definite goals is an important part of this process.

That's why I am so excited about our ebook called "Your Guide to Setting Goals Successfully."  It contains everything you need to design the life you want by mapping your priorities in life, and breaking these down into manageable, timely achievements.  Life goals are infinitely more achievable when you know how to structure them to guide you to the success and happiness you always dreamed of, in ever-rewarding steps towards creating your ideal lifestyle.  Goal Setting

The importance of efficient goal-setting should never be underestimated, whether they be financial, sporting or even personal goals.  The areas of my life where I have excelled in the past are easily identified by my efficient use of goal-setting.  It's about time I re-explored this useful skill so that 2008 will be as great as I know it can!

Kind Regards,

Melissa

It’s a Jingle and a Jangle Time Soon :o)

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

It’s almost that time of year again, and I swear every year is shorter than the one before.  And, while I’m a little ashamed to admit it, I think that if not for the kids’ contagious excitement over Santa’s impending appearance, I could easily just get too caught up in work and forget to slow down and enjoy the celebrations.  Fortunately, however, children are a blessing in that they remind you that your priorities get a bit skewed and it’s important to slow down and have fun once in awhile… And what better time to do this than the traditional silly season?

At www.LifeResourceDownloads.com we take pride in our Christmas and Holiday category which, like the rest Life Resource Downloads, is growing all the time.  Personally, I don’t need any encouragement to get into the spirit of things in the kitchen at Christmas time.  I’m not the biggest fan of cooking, but I sure like eating tasty treats!

A Homemade Christmas

My all time favourite book for a complete Christmas feast is A Homemade Christmas.   It has all the recipes you need to show your families and friends a celebration they won’t soon forget – from Christmas beverages, condiments, the main roast, to the desserts we all know and love.  Yummy!

Let us not forget those of you who want to get straight to the sweet stuff.  We have it covered -

Christmas Cookies

Christmas cookies that I love to eat all year round :o

                                                                    Pumpkin Pies     Mouthwatering pumpkin desserts (who would have thought they’d be so many yummy things to make with pumpkin!);

 Holiday Candy

and super tasty Holday Candy and Fudge.

Much as I’m reluctant to admit it, Christmas isn’t all about my stomach.  Apart from the Christian celebration of Christ’s birth, Christmas is also the time for us to thank God for the blessings we have, and to spend time with our family.  Today’s lifestyle with both parents working to make bill payments seems to preclude some of the simple pleasures of sitting down and doing fun activities with the family.  No matter the weather or the time of day, Draw Like Me gives you the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill together, and have some fun in the meantime! Draw Like Me

We have more Christmas titles for you to explore and enjoy, but you’ll have to check them out for yourself.  In the meantime, enjoy the lead up to Christmas and Happy Holidays !

Kind Regards,

Excited? It’s amazing how self-satisfying it can be to grow your own fruit and vegetables to eat raw or cook up into tasty, nutritious meals. And it’s even better when the kids take an interest in helping you and they are caught picking their own vegetables to eat straight from the vine.
